From Family Harmonies to Studio Dreams: My Journey in Music

In this blog post, I share my personal journey—how my family roots in music paved the way for my dreams, leading me back to the studio to fulfill my passion.

The Family Legacy

From the very beginning, music was woven into the fabric of my family. My grandmother sang with her siblings in a gospel group, and their joyful harmonies filled our home. This vibrant atmosphere not only sparked my love for music but also gifted me an incredible singing voice.

During countless family gatherings, the soulful sounds of artists like Jodeci and Dru Hill shaped my musical landscape. I remember Grandma playing her favorites, and the rhythm of R&B mixed with gospel became my childhood soundtrack. These moments, filled with laughter and melodies, ignited my passion for singing.

Performing for my family, I often sang covers of Dru Hill’s "In My Bed" and Jodeci’s "Come And Talk To Me." Their shoutouts of "Sing it Q!" motivated me and helped me realize: I had a voice, and the potential to entertain.

The Roots of My Passion

Fast forward to 2023, and music has remained a constant in my life. However, between 2021 and 2023, I found myself sidetracked by the film industry, struggling to find my voice. During this time, I often felt disconnected from my passion for music.

Yet, that urge to create never faded. One day, I decided to reconnect with my roots. I reached out to my producer and co-host, and together we launched the “Not Just Music Podcast.” Nearly every week, we explored different music genres and cultural influences, reigniting my creative spark.

Returning to the Studio

With a fresh perspective, I felt the need to return to the studio. I told my producer, “I need to get back in the studio.” We immediately got to work. While listening to various beats, I found one that resonated with me deeply. It eventually evolved into my track "Dreams To Reality."

This song symbolizes the positive relationships I had fostered during my hiatus. Themes of love and vulnerability filled my lyrics, creating an authentic reflection of the feelings we all face. The song embodies a universal message: dreams can come true with hard work and passion.
